Key Responsibilities:
Conduct financial analysis and assurance reviews to evaluate risk management, internal controls, and operational governance.
Provide detailed financial reporting and analysis to support the Ministry’s compliance with established accounting principles and financial policies.
Collaborate with various stakeholders to offer financial expertise and business advice tailored to departmental needs.
Manage sensitive financial reviews and recommend strategies for remediation of identified discrepancies.
Continuously learn and adapt to new financial management systems and processes.
Mandatory Skills:
Education: Relevant post-secondary degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field.
Soft Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with stakeholders.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to conduct thorough analyses.
Technical Skills:
Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and public sector accounting standards.
Proficiency in financial reporting and familiarity with government financial management systems and compliance frameworks.
Hands-on expertise with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other financial software (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
Work Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance review, preferably in a public sector environment.
Nice to Have Skills:
Education: Enrolment in or completion of a CPA, CGA, CA, or CMA program.
Work Experience:
Experience with process improvement methodologies and documentation management.
Knowledge or experience with information technology accounting systems.
Experience working in the public sector or government finance is an asset.
Additional Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities to identify issues and propose effective solutions.
Capability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment:
Contract roles may require onsite meetings in Edmonton, with flexibility to accommodate remote work when necessary.
