As a Financial Analyst, you will play a crucial role in providing financial expertise, conducting reviews, and supporting decision-making processes within the Ministry. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct financial analysis and assurance reviews to evaluate risk management, internal controls, and operational governance.

  • Provide detailed financial reporting and analysis to support the Ministry’s compliance with established accounting principles and financial policies.

  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to offer financial expertise and business advice tailored to departmental needs.

  • Manage sensitive financial reviews and recommend strategies for remediation of identified discrepancies.

  • Continuously learn and adapt to new financial management systems and processes.

Mandatory Skills:

  • Education: Relevant post-secondary degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related field.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with stakeholders.

    • Excellent attention to detail and ability to conduct thorough analyses.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and public sector accounting standards.

    • Proficiency in financial reporting and familiarity with government financial management systems and compliance frameworks.

    • Hands-on expertise with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and other financial software (e.g., SAP, Oracle).

  • Work Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance review, preferably in a public sector environment.

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Education: Enrolment in or completion of a CPA, CGA, CA, or CMA program.

  • Work Experience:

    • Experience with process improvement methodologies and documentation management.

    • Knowledge or experience with information technology accounting systems.

    • Experience working in the public sector or government finance is an asset.

  • Additional Skills:

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities to identify issues and propose effective solutions.

    • Capability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment:

  • Contract roles may require onsite meetings in Edmonton, with flexibility to accommodate remote work when necessary.
